How It Works

USPSA Classification Explained

USPSA classification is determined by averaging your best 6 scores from your 8 most recent classifier stages. Each time you shoot a new classifier, your oldest score is removed from the pool and replaced by your new score — giving you a rolling window of 8 scores to work from. The best 6 of those 8 are averaged to produce your classification percentage.

Classification percentages are measured against the High Overall (HHF) for each classifier stage, meaning your raw score is converted to a percentage of the best score ever recorded on that stage. This normalized percentage is what gets averaged across your 8 most recent classifiers.

What Each Class Requires

USPSA uses six classification levels. Your classification percentage determines which class you compete in within your division. Here is a breakdown of each classification and what it takes to achieve it.

GM
Grand Master · 95%+
The highest USPSA classification. Grand Masters represent the top tier of competitive shooters and typically compete at the national and world level.
M
Master · 85%+
Master class shooters are highly skilled competitors who consistently perform at an elite level across all classifier types and stage formats.
A
A-Class · 75%+
A-Class is considered the first level of advanced competition. Shooters at this level have developed strong fundamentals and consistent stage execution.
B
B-Class · 60%+
B-Class shooters have moved past the beginner stage and are developing the skills needed to compete effectively at local and regional matches.
C
C-Class · 40%+
C-Class is where most new competitors begin their classification journey. It represents a solid foundation in the sport with room to grow.
D
D-Class · Below 40%
D-Class is the entry classification for new USPSA competitors. Shooters in D-Class are learning the rules, safety procedures, and fundamental techniques.

Why do I mark my oldest score?

When you shoot a new classifier, USPSA removes your oldest score from the pool and replaces it with your new score. Marking your oldest score allows the tool to accurately simulate what your classification will look like after your next classifier — the oldest score is automatically excluded when calculating your hypothetical result.

What divisions does this tool support?

The classification percentage logic is the same across all USPSA divisions — Production, Carry Optics, Open, Limited, Single Stack, and others. Enter your classifier percentages regardless of division and the tool will calculate your classification correctly.

Where do I find my classifier percentages?

Your classifier scores are available on your USPSA member page at uspsa.org. Log in, go to your member profile, and look for your classifier history. Each entry will show the percentage you earned on that classifier stage.
